5 Easy Ways to Jumpstart Your Spring Refresh

SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER!

A lot of people use spring to take stock of their home and belongings, by participating in spring cleaning, a seasonal wardrobe swap, or a spring declutter. Those are all helpful (and sometimes very necessary) ways to get prepared for the new season which can bring some much-needed change and a fresh energy.

We have 5 easy ways you can prepare for this change of season (and weather) and launch into spring with renewed energy!

1. closet edit…be honest with yourself!

Spring Closet Organization

Probably the most popular suggestion for a quick spring reset is to swap out your winter wardrobe and bring back those warm-weather items. However, to really get a fresh start, we recommend editing your items as you go through this process. Before putting away your winter items, consider items that you might be ready to part with. Do the same with the spring/summer items before you put them in your drawers/closet. Make sure you start the season with items you are excited to wear and use!

Some Sage Wisdom: When deciding donation items, remember that you aren’t just getting rid of stuff from your life. You are also likely bringing joy to someone else. For example, if you have two similar items that serve the same purpose but find you are always grabbing one over the other, you have a clear second choice. And while that item might always be your second choice, it might be someone else’s first. Consider that the next time you are struggling to let go of an item.

2. MAKEUP MAKEOVER

Spring is a great time to give your makeup a makeover. Go through your collection and get rid of items that have been around for too long. Most makeup products have a shelf life so check for expiration dates or just toss anything that you might have had on hand for years. Quick tip - if you don’t remember when you bought it, you probably shouldn't be putting it on your face.

Find out what gaps you might have in your collection and make any updates necessary. Bring some brighter, lighter colors to the forefront and make sure those items are easily accessible. Take this change of season (and palettes!) to give your makeup a refresh.

Organized Under-Sink

3. FRESHEN UP YOUR UNDER-SINK SPACE

Under sink cabinets can feel like a black hole that items get tossed into and never come back out. But, they have the potential to be one of the most functional parts of your home (especially here in NYC where dedicated linen or cleaning closets are a mere fantasy). So, give your under-sink spaces an upgrade: pull everything out and give the cabinet a wipe-down. Decide what items are useful to have and put them back into the cabinet in a way that keeps everything visible and accessible. We love using these 2-Tier Multipurpose Organizers to keep items neat and organized.

Reusable Tote Bags

4. DECLUTTER YOUR REUSABLE GROCERY/TOTE BAGS

One of the most common items that people tend to hang onto (and rarely use) are reusable tote bags. We’re talking Fresh Direct bags, Target bags, canvas bags, and other reusable totes. If we had a nickel for the number of times we’ve heard “But I might need more”...Sigh.

So this spring we want to challenge you to cut down on your bag count. Know that more bags will come into your life if and when you need them. But for now, think about how many of these reusable bags you can carry at one time. Keep only twice that number. You will probably never even use that many but we will let you keep them “just in case”. 😉

5. BREAK OUT OF YOUR WINTER-INDUCED ROUTINE

In winter, it is so easy for us to get into a monotonous routine when it comes to our day-to-day life. We stay home to avoid going out in the cold. We take the fastest route to get from point A to point B. We tend to get a liiiittle too comfortable in the winter since the cold weather and short days make it hard to get out and enjoy ourselves. So with this new season upon us, take in the world differently. Try a new coffee shop, walk a different route home, and meet a friend at a new spot. Break out of the rut in your routine. Use this new season to challenge yourself to get out and make some new connections.

We hope these tips have given you some inspiration to refresh your life! Making a true change in your life involves not only changing your surroundings but also your habits and your mentality. Let this change of season propel you into a new chapter of excitement and opportunity. Whether it’s a seasonal swap, a makeup makeover, or switching up your routine, these small adjustments can lead to big changes!
